23 Months

It has been a long time since I have done a monthly update for Hadley and soon I will be talking about her 2... yes TWO year old post!

At 23 months she is:

Diapers: Size 5 and PANTIES! We have ventured into potty training territory and let me tell you I don't like it. I was not ready to make that commitment but Hadley really really wants to use the potty. We were actually much further along but then she started to revert back a little when she was sick. She is a smart cookie.. I will be holding Crosby or feeding him and she will run up to me and say "potty" "PPPPOOOTTTTTTYYYYY" because she knows I will get up and take her to the potty; therefore she gets my undivided attention. I will be happy when we are out of this middle area of diapers and potty.

Eating: She is a very good eater as long as she is not at home :-) She wants to snack all the time and I want her to have full meals and 1-2 snacks a day.. she is headstrong and will just not eat. The second she starts throwing or dropping food or looking for the dogs to feed I take it away and then she cries and says "Soway" (sorry) and acts like she will behave... WRONG! If I give her the food back she does the same exact thing.

She also started spitting, yep you read that right - spitting. It is so gross. Where is she learning these bad habits?! Neither one of us spit our food :-) They don't call it terrible twos for nothing!

Sleeping: I was naive to think that once she started sleeping through the night she would pretty much always sleep through the night except when she was sick or had a nightmare... again I was wrong. She has been more consistent with her sleep patterns lately, but between her and Crosby we were feeling like zombies there for awhile.

Clothes: Some 2T (in nicer brand clothes) but mostly 3T in the cheaper stuff. She has weighed the same for awhile now (26lbs) but she is getting taller and taller. Lately, my mom (CC) has been making Hadley the cutest clothes. Hadley will now make request for bows and pick out her own bow. The funny thing is she usually picks a bow that semi matches.

What is new lately: The older she gets the months don't bring on significant changes or as big of milestones, but one thing that stands out is she will say/repeat any and everything now. This has been going on for a little bit. About a month or two ago Matt said "Oh hell no" and then she piped up with a "hellno"... SOOO we definitely watch everything that comes out of our mouth's :-)

She will also help clean up (I use the term loosely) her toys and laundry when asked. You have to help her, but she will do it. We also make her pick up all the food she drops on the ground instead of just letting the dogs clean up. We were hoping it would encourage her to not throw or drop her food, but so far it is not working. We are going to keep trying though.. something has got to stick, right?!

Overall, she is doing well. She generally looks like one big bruise from her running into walls, face planting and climbing (or more like falling off things). I was starting to think she may be a difficult child.. and she may be, but from conversations with other toddler parents it is just part of it. We were feeling like we are constantly putting her in timeout and its all negative all the time - however, if we look at the big picture we're not. She does generally go to timeout at least once during the evening. She does hit her brother. Even if it is right after she gives him tisses (kisses - k's are t's to her right now). She can be so sweet at times!

During one of the many chaotic mornings around here I had to set Crosby in the bouncer while I was running around getting everything ready to get out the door. He was screaming/crying and Hadley was playing with her kitchen. I was in the kitchen when his cries became muffled - I ran around the corner and Hadley had a cup covering his nose and mouth and she was looking at me all proud like I made the crying stop! OH MY! Never a dull moment around here :-)

Yesterday, was a tough day for us. It was Father's Day and Matt had a sinus headache and was exhausted. All I wanted was a day for him to relax - but it was far from that! Our house was/is a disaster and all we wanted to do was pick it up and do laundry. Seemed easy enough - maybe a hour or two to accomplish.. wrong. For instance, taking the sheets off the bed turned into Hadley and I playing under the covers and on the pillows, etc. Although it doesn't accomplish the task at hand - it is fun to have that playtime with her!

We have been better about just enjoying our time with the kids, and not worrying about chores. Looking around our house we had been doing a really good job with our new motto. As we tried to pick up and clean Hadley was body slamming her Elmo chair, running and falling into the dirty clothes (all 10 piles :-/) and putting them on her head and running around - into walls, doors, dogs - whatever. To say the least - our house was just as, if not, more dirty than before the day started. I stayed up a little later to power clean and get a couple of loads of laundry done just for my own sanity. Cleaning with a toddler and baby who only wants to be held doesn't get you far. All I wanted was someone to come hold him and entertain her for an hour so I could accomplish one thing!! Any takers for next weekend?!

Painful!

These poor babies.. I know it will be over soon, but this viral infection is bad. It has to get worse before its better but man are we over this! I'm not sure how Hadley is even walking. All the kids except one at Elsa's has it but Hadley and Crosby by far have it the worst when it comes to the blisters. One of the kids had the fever and a few bumps so they thought it was bug bites. Now that everyone is sick, they know its is Hand foot and mouth.. and don't be fooled this can be all over. Hadley's bottom and thighs are just as bad.

HFMD x 2

We all want our kids to learn to share, right? Well, Hadley has the sharing thing down pat. Crosby just turned 3 months and is on his 3rd sickness given to him by his big sis. This time it is bad. Even worse than when he was in the hospital. Both kids are sporting there fair share of 'polka-dots' but Hadley definitely has it worse with the blisters but Crosby is suffering with the higher fever and the sores in his throat. Neither one of them wants to drink but were forcing them and Hadley has not had more than a few bites of apple sauce in 3 days.

They will be home all week and we are taking turns from work but I am sure work hates me.. since returning to work a month ago both kids have been sick and Hadley has been multiple times requiring me to miss work. We'll take all the positive thoughts and prayers we can get for our kiddos to heal fast!

Relaxing.. that is about what I look like right after I wake up, too

Yummy!
Chubby thighs + baby = cute... chubby thighs + adult = not so cute!
Daddy's Girl

More to come later.. off to take Hadley to the Doctor. Poor baby.. I hope she doesn't have an ear infection, but I am pretty sure she does.

It's Official

The Kannady family is sick :(

I tried to Lysol and bleach everything and use hand sanitizer constantly but it didn't work...

I have said it's a cold and have a ride it out mentality. Matt started getting sick and immediately went to the Dr.. She said it is upper respiratory infection and now Matt has a nice $220 collection of prescriptions. I of course rolled my eyes and told him that is one expensive cold.

Now that Hadley is starting to show symptoms my immediate reaction she needs to go the doctor. So we'll see how she is doing in the morning. She is sleeping really good right now with the cool air humidifier. I have been sick for a week now.... I really hope hers doesn't last that long. It makes me sad to know I got everyone sick. And for being so sarcastic to Matt about rushing to the doctor. I want us all healthy again very soon.

Rolly Polly

Lately, Hadley has been a little frustrated and is crying at night. I figured it was from her first tooth that cut through the gums, but that wasn't it. Maybe it was the fact she wants to move all the time and is frustrated she can't get there. While that is part of it... it is because she rolls over onto her tummy and HATES it. She will not sleep on her tummy. She is squealing until you come flip her back over. She usually sleeps on her side, but now instead of stopping at her side she goes all the way over. Since I have been sick the last couple of days Matt has sleep in the guest room (apparently wearing multiple breath rite strips at one time doesn't help when you have a cold) and said he goes and flips her back over 3-4 times a night.... uh poor Matt! Hadley better learn to like sleeping on her tummy! And to think I was worried she didn't roll from her back to tummy enough... uh! Be careful what you wish for! Right now I am really working on her sitting on her own so she can crawl soon... I'm sure I will be wondering what I was thinking soon enough!

...

I have thought of many names for this blog post:

Worlds worst mom and pica

Socks and Maalox

Last 2 days from H-E-double hockey sticks

I need hardwood floors

and a few others, but I think this picture sums it up:

Let me start with Monday.
This is the day I lost the best Mom award. Now it is not that bad looking back, but in the moment I was pretty sure I was the worst person ever. Hadley has a bad case of acid reflux. The Prevacid helps but then there are some days it is just really bothering her, for instance, yesterday. I was playing with her on my bed and she was on her tummy and started to spit up. A LOT. She started screaming as she kept spitting up. So I picked her up and got the Maalox ready to give to her. The medicine dropper was almost empty and some how I pulled it out of her mouth and shot it into her eye.

Here comes the hysteria. She was SCREAMING. I was panicking. I ran over to the sink and rinsed her eye out. I called my mom and she said "what is wrong if you don't tell me I'm getting in the car now" she couldn't hear me because Hadley was screaming so loud. Once I got her to stop screaming so loud I told my mom through my own crying what happened. She said call the pediatrician. I did and the lady who took the message told me to call Poison Control. I was, like I said, hysterical. Hadley however had stopped crying and was cooing and smiling at me. Poison control told me that Maalox is very benign and that I just need to put her in her tub and put cool water on her head to run down her eyes for 15 minutes. That was the hardest 15 minutes. I was sitting in the bathtub with her (both of us fully clothed) and pouring handfuls of cool water on her head. She screamed the whole time and flinched with every handful of water.

Once that was over she was exhausted it was past her nap time - I wrapped her up and rocked her to sleep. I never do that, but I just couldn't put her down. She is definitely not blind like my initial thoughts to the situation. To say the least I felt like the worlds worst mom.

This is where the wine comes into the picture. I sure did enjoy a nice glass with my bath last night.

Now today.
I love dogs. You can tell by the post below. They are truly our other babies. I have had a dog all my life. They are expensive, dirty, crazy, playful, cute, and cuddly. They are priceless! The fact that I can still say all these things after today should attest to my love for my puppies! This is where the carpet cleaner and gloves come in. My precious lovable Koda has a sever case of Pica. I know all dogs like to chew on socks, underwear, etc... but my dear Koda loves to swallow them- whole. Today, however, he reached a new low. He swallowed a pair of socks. Yes, a whole pair of Matt's socks.

How do I know it was a whole pair.. well you can figure that out. I will spare you the pictures. Why I took a picture I have no idea. I no longer worry about him eating things. The odd thing is I have never even seen my dog with a sock in his mouth. I don't think he chews on them but just inhales it in .2 seconds.
